AAUW Mission Viejo/
Saddleback Valley Branch
We are a 501-c-4 nonprofit public benefit organization dedicated to AAUW’s mission to advance equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy. We were chartered in Mission Viejo in 1979 and have a long history of service to the educational needs of the Mission Viejo and Saddleback Valley community.
TWO MAJOR LOCAL PROJECTS WE SUPPORT
SCHOLARSHIPS
The AAUW Mission Viejo/Saddleback Valley Branch provides scholarships to deserving candidates from Saddleback College to pursue a higher education. There are Kitty Lindeman Memorial Scholarships for graduating women from Saddleback College who are transferring to a 4-year college/university in the fall. There are also endowed Osher scholarships for women returning to Saddleback College to continue their education.
TECH TREK
We offer middle school girls in our area an opportunity to attend a summer science camp on a college/university campus. The girls must have completed 7th grade and will enter 8th grade in the fall. Branch fundraisers cover the cost of all room, board, and educational materials for the girls.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to anyone holding an associate or equivalent (RN), baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university. There are also college/student memberships.
DUES
Membership dues are $112.00, which include $72.00 to AAUW (national), $20.00 to AAUW CA (state), and $20.00 (local). Welcome
American Association of University Women (AAUW) is a nationwide network of more than 170,000 members and supporters, 1,000 branches and 800 college/university partners. The mission of AAUW is to advance equity for women and girls through education, research, and advocacy. Since its founding in 1881, AAUW has been at the forefront of efforts to advance the opportunities available to women. From the right to vote to equal pay to equal facilities, AAUW has been a fierce advocate on behalf of all women and girls.
In our local branch, founded in 1979, we support these efforts by
• Awarding scholarships to women at Saddleback College
• Supporting middle school girls between 7th and 8th grade to participate in STEM
summer camps on a college/university campus.
• Offering community education programs such as human trafficking in Orange
County, fact-based evaluations of ballot propositions, and local efforts to
combat domestic violence.
In addition, we provide numerous opportunities to build friendships through our small interest groups, including a book club, movie group, gourmet dining, nature walkers, cultural explorations, lunch bunch, and coffee & conversation.
Explore our website and then consider joining us as we strive to fulfill AAUW’s mission and build camaraderie, friendship and fun. We would love to add you to our branch.
